Reiki therapy in the hospital environment: summary of a scientific article

Today we are going to talk about a study of Reiki therapy in hemato-oncologic patients!

Today we are going to talk about a study of Reiki therapy in hemato-oncologic patients!

Between 2007 and 2009, a research project was carried out at the S. João Hospital, in Porto, entitled "the impact of Reiki therapy on the quality of life of haemato-oncological patients", by Zilda Alarcão, in which 100 patients took part. Divided into two groups - "real Reiki" and "placebo Reiki" - the impact of the therapy quickly began to be seen.

To Zilda Alarcão, the research proved "(...) that patients who received Reiki twice a week had a better quality of life than those who were not treated with this therapy". Happily for everyone, the results of the study convinced the hospital administration to adopt the application of therapy, on a voluntary basis, in the hospital.

According to Zilda Alarcão, the therapist, by allowing energy to flow in the human being, will decrease anxiety, suffering, pain, fatigue, and all the states of physical dependence. With this, he favors positive feelings, sleep and rest, concentration, learning, and self-esteem.

Thus, it can be concluded that using Reiki therapy on hospital patients can be an asset to the patient's mental health status and that it helps to better accept treatments!
